Jam First was my very first script and the beginning of an unexpected journey into playwriting. Until then, I had never imagined writing for the stage. In fact, I only dared to call myself a playwright after Google assured me that, having written a play, I was officially allowed to!
On a whim, I entered Jam First into the Rye Writes playwriting competition, organised as part of the Rye Arts Festival. I had no expectations beyond simply giving it a try, so receiving the news that my script had been selected was a wonderful surprise. Out of 57 international entries, Jam First was one of just six plays chosen for performance at the Rye Arts Festival in September 2026.
I am very excited to see my first script come to life on stage. It marks the moment I realised that stories I’d carried around in my imagination could find an audience beyond the page. What began as a single experiment has since grown into a passion for writing plays, proving that sometimes the best adventures start simply by saying, “Why not?”
